Happy thanksgiving against young family with a dogThanksgiving is a day we set aside for being thankful. We can be thankful for everything we have, and that includes family. It can be difficult, though, to take the time to sit back and think about all we have to grateful for. After all, either we are traveling to another family member’s home or our family members are coming to our home.

Either way, we have to spend time preparing for the day. We might have to pack (and get the kids packed). Or we have food shopping to do and house cleaning to get done. We sure don’t want company coming to anything other than a sparkling clean home! It’s not impossible, though, to enjoy the day and focus on being thankful.

It’s not impossible even though on top of all you have to do before Thanksgiving Day, there is all you have to do on Thanksgiving Day itself.  If you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner, you have a lot of food to prepare. The kids, especially the little ones, don’t really understand that you are busier than usual, so you need to take care of them as well.  That makes for a stressful day.

You can still find the time to think about what you have to be thankful for.  You can even get the kids involved! You can get them to help with making some snacks. If you do this together on the day before Thanksgiving, not only do you have less to do on Thanksgiving, but you also have a chance to talk to your child about the meaning of Thanksgiving. It’s not just about food. At the end of the day, you might sit down together and watch some movies with a Thanksgiving theme. Or you might have all the kids watch a movie while you prepare the meal.

You can find these ideas and more in the article Thanksgiving Activities for the Whole Family. If you want more ideas on how to get the kids involved in a creative way, take a look at the article Creative Ways to Give Thanks on Thanksgiving. That one has ideas for crafts for kids with a variety of interests and abilities, including budding authors.
